We’ve all seen the Mac vs. PC TV commercials in which actors representing the two computer systems stand on stark-white sets and talk high-tech pros and cons. But did you catch “Jesus vs. The Easter Bunny”? It’s one of the evangelistic parodies at GodTube, the Christian video-sharing site that officially launched May 1, 2007.

Founder Chris Wyatt believes funny clips such “Baby Got Book,” a hip-hop spoof affirming the value of biblically grounded women, may be the type of content that draws people to his YouTube alternative, but it’s the substance that will keep them there. Christian music. Teaching. Pro-life commentary. Testimonies. And Wyatt isn’t satisfied just preaching to the choir. In addition to giving the faith community a creative outlet all its own, the Dallas Theological Seminary student wants to reach the lost.

“I know it’s a lot of nonbelievers watching,” he told ABC News Nightline. “We get e-mails every day. And that really is the whole point. It’s to spread the gospel to those who have not heard it.”

Already, people are turning to GodTube for answers. One sincere young man asked on-camera why Christians reacted so strongly to The Da Vinci Code. A number of people responded graciously in the written “comments” section.

Fortunately for families, rigorous screening ensures that all uploads are both wholesome and orthodox. Each gets reviewed by a qualified human being, not merely filtering software. Wyatt assured us, “It is an arduous process, but we do make sure that there is absolutely no objectionable material on the site. And we carry a very high standard. The integrity of the content is No. 1 for us.”

Within weeks of its launch, GodTube became the most trafficked Christian site on the Internet.
