Prayer! America's Strength and Shield

On Thursday, May 1 America will celebrate the 57th Annual National Day of Prayer

On Thursday, May 1st, all across our nation in church events and public venues from coast to coast, hearts and hands will be joined together for the 57th annual National Day of Prayer.

This year’s theme, “Prayer! America's Strength and Shield,” comes from the promise the Lord gave us in Psalm 28:7:

The Lord is my strength and my Shield;

my heart trusts in Him, and I am helped.

We hope this message will not only serve as a catalyst to encourage God’s people to take prayer for our nation seriously, but that it will draw believers closer together as they intercede corporately on behalf of our country.

NDP Chairman Shirley Dobson says, "This is a critical time to be in prayer for America. The biblical principles upon which our country was founded are coming under attack in every segment of society. Yet, despite this troubling trend, we can take heart in the knowledge that God hears and responds to the earnest cries of His people."

This year's Honorary Chairman is Dr. Ravi Zacharias. For 34 years Dr. Zacharias has spoken all over the world and in numerous universities, notably in Harvard, Princeton and Oxford. He has been a visiting scholar at Cambridge University. While there, he authored his first book, A Shattered Visage: The Real Face of Atheism, updated and republished in 2004 by Baker as The Real Face of Atheism. In all, he has authored or edited 16 books.

His weekly radio program, "Let My People Think," is aired on nearly 1600 outlets worldwide, and his weekday program, "Just Thinking," on more than 300. He is founder and chairman of the board of Ravi Zacharias International Ministries.
